Aurora season • September to April
Northern Lights Tour in Iceland with a private Spanish and English guide
We head out under Iceland's dark skies, away from the city lights, following the solar forecast and geomagnetic activity (the KP index) to take you to the best spot each night. A Spanish and English speaking guide joins you, explains the phenomenon and helps you photograph the aurora.
The aurora borealis is a natural phenomenon: it cannot be guaranteed, but we maximize your chances by choosing the night and place with the best forecast.
Night Tour
Northern Lights Iceland's sky spectacle
The northern lights occur when solar wind particles collide with the Earth's atmosphere near the pole. Iceland, right under the auroral oval, is one of the best places in the world to see them between September and April, when the nights are long and dark.
At LundiWay we run a private aurora-hunting tour: every afternoon we check the solar activity forecast and the cloud cover, and decide where to head to give you the best chance of seeing them. No crowds, at your own pace and with explanations in English.

#How it works
How we hunt the aurora
No two nights are the same. We combine the solar activity forecast with the cloud map to pick the best area, and head out with enough time to wait for the aurora to appear.
Book my nightForecast check
Every afternoon we analyze the KP geomagnetic activity index and the cloud cover to choose the best area for the night.
Pickup at your accommodation
We pick you up at your hotel or apartment at the agreed time, after dark, to get away from the light pollution.
Out to dark skies
We drive toward areas far from the city lights, where the aurora shows up with greater contrast and intensity.
Waiting and watching
Your guide explains the phenomenon while we wait. Patience is part of the hunt: sometimes the aurora takes its time, but it is worth the wait.
Photography and return
We help you with your camera settings to capture the aurora and then take you back to your accommodation.

Planning
When to see the northern lights in Iceland?
The season runs from September to April, when there are enough hours of darkness. There is no single "best month": what matters is a clear sky and solar activity. The more nights you dedicate, the higher your chances.
| Time of year | What to expect |
|---|---|
| 🍂 Sep – Oct | Start of the season, milder weather and autumn landscapes. Nights getting longer. |
| ❄️ Nov – Jan | Longest and darkest nights of the year: more hours of opportunity, but colder and possibly cloudier. |
| 🌌 Feb – Mar | Considered among the best months: good darkness and often more stable skies. |
| 🌱 Apr | End of the season. Still possible in the first weeks, before the nights get shorter. |
Note: the aurora is a natural and unpredictable phenomenon. No agency can guarantee a sighting; we maximize your chances by choosing the right night and place.
